“Buddenbrookid. Ühe perekonna langus” Thomas Mann (nr. 973)

The setting of the novel by the German writer, Nobel laureate Thomas Mann (1875-1955) covers the life course of four generations of the Lübeck merchant family. The company founded by the vivacious, free-spirited and cheerful Johann Buddenbrook Sr. shows the first signs of decline already in the days of his son, the cautious and pious Consul Johann B. Jr.; during the time of the last sons, the eldest of whom, Thomas, even becomes a senator and marries the first beauty of the town, the younger, Christian, on the other hand, is bohemian and moves in rather dubious company, and during the time of daughter Toni, who has gone through two unhappy marriages, business gets worse and worse, until a stranger, the only descendant with artistic blood Hanno’s early death ends everything.
