“Valdemor” Ahto Levi (nr 971)

A story about the life of thieves, a bloody power struggle and the law of thieves

A novel with autobiographical lines by an author from Estonia, about the events that he has partly discussed in the first work “Halli Hundi pävik”, which has also aroused great interest for us.
The author, who spent many years in prisons and camps and escaped from there many times, gives a naturalistic and detailed picture of the life of thieves, the twists and turns of their fate, but has also reached thieves’ philosophical generalizations. There are hints about how the “Diary of the Gray Wolf” was born.
The title character of the book is the authoritarian and principled thief Valdemor, who, according to himself, has turned everything upside down in his life – including his name.
